How to take care of your e-bike? - Guide
E-Bike maintenance
E-Bike battery
Currently, most electric bicycles are powered by lithium-ion (Li-Ion) cells. Their main advantage is their lower weight and they also guarantee a long service life. The question of how to properly charge an e-bike battery is often answered by experts at the point of sale, but it never hurts to read detailed information. You can find complete information in the enclosed instructions for the e-bike. With batteries, you will very often come across the term cycle, which indicates the number of complete charges and discharges. It is generally recommended to let the battery fully discharge and then charge for the first few cycles, but after that you don't have to worry about charging the bike for shorter distances. On the other hand, you could damage your battery if you continue to use this process after a few months. Most batteries are equipped with overcharge protection, but despite this we recommend that you respect the times stated in the instructions.
Never store the battery flat. If you have just returned from a cold snap (temperatures around freezing reduce the range of the e-bike by up to 1/3), rain or a ride in extreme temperatures (if you leave the bike in the sun for a long time, the battery may overheat, shortening its life), we recommend that you leave the battery to acclimatise for at least half an hour before charging it. Charge it only at room temperature and always use the original charger supplied by the e-bike manufacturer. If you will not be riding your e-bike for a long period of time, it is advisable to take the battery out and store it in a dry place at room temperature. Do not forget to recharge it regularly, as over time it will self-discharge and its lifetime will decrease significantly - at least once a month.
In general, battery life is affected by extreme temperatures and humid environments - but that doesn't mean you can't ride an e-bike in such weather - the bike just requires special care.
Motor, service inspection and washing of the e-bike
Just like a conventional bicycle, an electric bicycle needs regular maitenance. We do not recommend repairing the motor at home - unprofessional intervention could damage it. With regular service checks you can be sure that your e-bike is always in perfect condition.
We recommend cooler water for the maintenance of electric bikes to avoid the risk of the material expanding and thus allowing water to get into places where you don't want it. We recommend that you use only products designed for cleaning your e-bike.
Do not use a pressure washer on your e-bike. High pressure can get water into the engine and irreversibly damage it.
Tyres and tubes
We recommend checking the tyres on the bike to make sure they are not too worn. If the tread pattern is lost, it's bad. The bike will stick harder on the road and off-road, and there is a risk of punctures or punctures in the tire. How to care for e-bike tyres?
Chain, derailleur and cassette
The chain on an e-bike is very likely to wear out sooner than on a conventional bike - with the help of the motor, more torque is developed and a worn chain damages the chainring and cassette. The need to replace the chain can be identified by skipping on the chainring or persistent noises - but don't forget to lubricate the chain here. Clean, degrease and oil.
