Bosch Hub Line (internal designation BDU306Y) represents a major milestone in the portfolio of the German manufacturer Bosch eBike Systems. For the first time in 16 years of mid-drive motor dominance, Bosch introduces a motor integrated into the rear wheel hub. This drive is specifically designed for light, elegant, and minimalist urban or fitness e-bikes, where the emphasis is on clean design, low weight, and low maintenance.

Main advantages of the Hub Line system

  • Low weight: The motor itself weighs just 2.3 kg. The entire electrical system, including a slim integrated battery and wiring, weighs only 4.4 kg, allowing for the construction of e-bikes with a total weight well under 15 kg.
  • Minimalist design: With a diameter of only 100 mm, the rear wheel motor is almost invisible. The bike retains the silhouette of a classic bicycle.
  • Minimal wear: Because the motor drives the rear wheel directly, its power is not transmitted through the chain or belt. This dramatically extends the service life of the drivetrain.
  • Zero resistance when pedaling: When the motor is off or after exceeding 25 km/h, the motor creates no mechanical resistance. You can ride the bike as naturally as a regular bicycle.
  • Full integration into The Smart System: Support for the eBike Flow mobile app, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and advanced security features.

Intelligent sensors instead of a torque sensor

Unlike Bosch Performance line mid-drive motors, the Hub Line drive does not use a torque sensor (pedal pressure). It doses assistance based on advanced cadence sensing (pedaling speed) and incline. The result is a very smooth, immediate power delivery upon start-up and constant support that is ideal for urban traffic.

Battery and power

The system is optimized for combination with the new slim internal PowerTube 360 battery (capacity 360 Wh, weight 2.1 kg). For longer ranges, the system is fully compatible with the auxiliary PowerMore 250 battery (a water bottle-shaped Range Extender).

Smart features and security

  • eBike Lock & Alarm: Option to digitally lock the motor via smartphone and track the bike's location using the GPS ConnectModule.
  • AUTO mode: Automatically adjusts the support level based on the current situation (headwind, uphill riding) without the rider needing to manually switch modes on the handlebars.
  • eShift: Support for automatic and electronic shifting (e.g., in cooperation with Shimano or TRP shifting systems).
