Bosch eBike Systems introduces a significant upgrade to its eBike Flow app (version 1.31), further strengthening the digital protection of e-bikes equipped with the Bosch Smart System. The new feature allows owners to mark their e-bike (or even a standalone battery) as stolen directly in the app, making it more difficult for thieves to resell or use it.
How the feature works
Once an e-bike is marked as stolen, the connection to the app is permanently blocked. This means the e-bike no longer receives wireless software updates, riding modes cannot be changed, and its digital functions cannot be fully used. This increases the chance of recovering the stolen e-bike and at the same time removes the thief’s motivation to steal it.
Information about this status is permanently stored in the central digital ecosystem of Bosch eBike Systems. Thanks to the linkage of system components – motor, battery, and display – with the user profile, this status is visible wherever someone attempts to connect to the e-bike:
- - Prospective buyers checking the e-bike via the Flow app will see a clear indication that it has been stolen.
- - Authorized dealers and service technicians will receive a warning about the stolen bike when connecting via the Bosch DiagnosticTool.
- - Authorities or police can verify the e-bike’s status directly in the digital system.

Why this matters
E-bike thefts represent significant financial losses for owners. With this feature, Bosch responds to the need for more effective prevention and for making it harder to resell stolen bikes. Marking an e-bike as stolen therefore acts as a digital “black mark” that reduces the attractiveness of stolen bikes on the used e-bike market and increases the chances of returning them to their original owners.
The feature will be available free of charge in the Flow app from the end of January 2026 — with no Flow+ subscription required.
Part of a broader protection strategy
This extension complements existing digital security features offered by Bosch:
- - eBike Lock – digital locking of motor assistance, ensuring that the bike cannot be used without an authorized device.
- - eBike Alarm – activates an alarm and notifications in the event of suspicious activity.
- - Battery Lock – digitally locks the battery if it is moved to another bike (previously introduced at CES 2025).
The new stolen-bike marking feature thus extends protection from prevention and detection to the systematic disadvantage of stolen e-bikes.
