The new DEORE (M6200/M7200) and DEORE XT (M8200 with SHADOW ES technology) derailleurs come with an ultra-low, wedge-shaped profile that has no protruding edges. Thanks to this, they easily slide over rocks or stumps and instantly jump back into position without missing a gear.
The design is also optimized for modern derailleur hangers. During a strong upward impact, the hanger absorbs most of the force. This protects the derailleur itself and the frame from catastrophic damage, saving your wallet.
70% higher chain tension
Both derailleurs utilize a new chain stabilizer system with a dual spring. This increases the tension force by a full 70%. The result is a much firmer wrap around the cassette, stable chain management in rough terrain, and smooth shifting, even if the cassette teeth are already partially worn. The cage and pulleys have also been improved – the rigid construction minimizes the risk of dirt and branches from the trail getting tangled in the mechanism.
🎛️ Ergonomics and cockpit: Faster and more confident response
You will feel the changes immediately on your thumb. The new shift levers have a modified, shorter throw and provide a much clearer and sharper response upon clicking. In the DEORE XT series, a firmer "second click" and a replaceable rubber pad for better finger traction in any weather are also pleasing additions. The optimized lever angle ensures that the thumb stays in comfortable contact throughout the entire shifting stroke.
🛑 DEORE brakes: Top-tier technology accessible to everyone
The DEORE series has made a huge leap forward thanks to "trickle-down" technology – that is, by adopting proven systems from the elite XTR and DEORE XT series.
The new brake levers (BL-M6200) utilize the famous SERVO WAVE mechanism. This ensures a very fast pad travel towards the rotor in the initial phase of the pull, followed by a smooth, highly modifiable increase in braking power.

The system can be paired either with the uncompromising 4-piston caliper (BR-M6220), ideal for e-MTB and enduro, or the lighter 2-piston caliper (BR-M6200).

Transition to 200 mm
A minor but great piece of news for mechanics and home DIYers is that with the new thick rotors, Shimano is abandoning the non-traditional 203 mm diameter and moving to a pure 200 mm. This fundamentally simplifies the installation and adjustment of the brakes. Fewer spacers and adapters are needed for optimal caliper positioning relative to the rotor, and Shimano intends to gradually apply this step to its other rotor models as well.
