Compromising on equipment is a very bad idea

Mountain biking is a demanding sport - compromising on equipment is definitely not a good idea. The 4Forty helmet is built to withstand the rigors of the trails. Its quality is equal to helmets that cost twice as much: it has a deep profile covering the back of the head, is perfectly ventilated, fits perfectly on the head thanks to the Float Fit clamping system and has an adjustable visor.

The MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) provides increased protection against rotational forces on the head.

WHAT IS MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) and how does it work?

MIPS is a slippery liner between the EPS shell (helmet body) and the inner liners. In the event of an angled impact (for example, if you catch your head on a branch), the EPS shell of the helmet will roll a few millimeters over the MIPS layer, protecting your head and brain from a violent rotational jerk.

All Bell helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible on impact and meet the current European standard: EN 1078. The new MIPS technology aims to eliminate the rotational forces that act on the head in the event of a fall. When hit at any angle, the MIPS system allows the EPS shell of the helmet to rotate independently around the rider's head. Although this movement is only on the order of a few millimeters, we believe that MIPS technology significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that could otherwise be transmitted to the brain.
